I Am Stigma Free

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 1 in 5 people experience some form of mental illness, with anxiety and depression being two of the most common mental disorders worldwide. Traditionally, they're treated with antidepressant medications, psycho-therapy or a combination of both. More and more, sufferers of mental illness are turning to traditional Chinese medicine and other forms of complementary therapies as a form of treatment. Acupuncture is one modality that has been proven to be affective in treating adjustment disorders, anxiety, eating disorders, mood disorders, and substance abuse. One example of an acupuncture points combination used to increase the flow of Qi is known as The Four Gates. This combination is often used to promote general qi (chi) circulation and relaxation, and is often used as part of a larger acupuncture point prescription. The points can be found bilaterally on the hands between the thumb and index finger, and on the feet, between the big and second toe. A balanced diet, bio-feedback, talk therapy, art therapy, breathing techniques, exercise, yoga and meditation can all help with mental conditions, but it is important to consult with a medical doctor, and not be ashamed to reach out and ask for help.

Support Mental Health and be stigma free! 💚

Be well,

Peggy
